Our girl "Maggie" is a one and half to two year old German Shepherd Dog. She came to us as just another stray from the county. Maggie has been spayed, vet-checked, wormed, vaccinated, treated with advantage flea control and has her nails done. Maggie was adopted out of our shelter about 7 months ago and then recently returned to use because of some behavior problems. While the people loved her and had done obedience training with her they were concerned over her issues with strangers. Upon her return we placed her into foster care within Mason County with a GSD handler for an evaluation. (Thank you Ian) He worked with her and with us for about 3 weeks and explained to us that her problem is strictly fear of strangers. While she is getting better with strangers she will need a home that understands this fear and is willing to work (gently) with her in resolving this issue. She is responding well at the shelter now with strangers but needs more outside socialization. This little lady to us is just a bad greeter. Once she has a chance to sniff you... she is all over you. She is just a wonderful gal with a great personality. She works well on lead, knows the basic obedience, gets along great with her kennel mates and is just eager to please.
As Ian told me as I was walking him out to his truck upon returning Maggie to us.... This gal will never be a Police Dog nor a Search and Rescue Dog.... what she will be (with work and the proper owner)... is a wonderful pet.... "She is just a DELIGHT to be around".
