George is arriving on Monday into our Rescue...here is a description ahead of time on the presonality of George from the Director of the Shelter he is coming from.
"Kozac was extremely shy when he came to the shelter. He is a naturally submissive dog who lacks experience, however he does not really lack
confidence. He is much like a puppy in that way. New things do not freak him out or overwhelm him, they are just surprising and a bit scary. He seems to relate well to other dogs, even other unneutered, mature males.
He keeps his kennel clean, but will still lift his leg in the shelter - so I am not willing to call him housetrained but I am sure he will learn very
quickly.
Once he trusts someone he is very happy to see them and looks to them for guidance. He comes to the name "George" as I have dupped him
Gorgeous George and never call him Kozac (which I don't think he knows anyway). He uses his mouth gently and solicits attention from me and the other
staff and volunteers he has come to know by bonking our hands with his head.
That may sound obnoxious and pushy but is great to see considering how introverted and defeated he was when he first arrived here. He will sit on command but is slow about it - I think it is more of a motivation issue than an arthritis issue. He really is great looking for 8 years. I never would have believed he was that old if it wasn't for his AKC papers.
He does like to ride in the car. If I didn't have nine pets at home, he would be coming to live with me (and I do not say that very often about dogs that we get at the shelter.)
The only thing about him that is a draw back is that he is distracted, especially when outside - I believe this has everything to do with being unneutered and will be remedied once the excessive testosterone is
out of his body. He still seems to be looking for his last owners. He is going to bond extremely well with his new family and make an awesome pet."
