So, here begins the life of Danya, which almost did not continue today.. Danya wsa hit by a car 3 days ago and taken to a Shelter. She was on pain medication while she waited in her kennel run for her family to come and rescue her and take her to a veterinarian..The Shelter did what they could for her and kept her on the pain medication and when her 3 days were up today, she was on the list for euthanasia this evening. Fortunately, there is a volunteer there who asked the staff veterinarian if she could contact the Washington German Shepherd Rescue.but did not know if we could afford the $500 to $2000 the vet estimated it would cost to repair her femur. The volunteer called us and we said we would take her...The volunteer was allowed to erase her name for the euthanasia list on the board and take her out of there. We had a veterinarian office waiting for her arrival and the wonderful volunteer who called us, drove her over.
She has arrived at the vet this evening so we will know more this weekend.(5/28/05) We were told that on the way out of the Shelter and on the way to the vet office, she sat quietly in the car and licked the volunteers who had given her a chance she would not have had otherwise..
We are often asked why we work so hard for German Shepherds, why we spend so much time and effort and our own money for dogs we do not know and have never met. Seeing this girl in her kennel run waiting on a list to die because she was injured is enough to for anyone to understand we do this..why so many wonderful volunteers offer to help us transfer and pull dogs from the Shelter..The love and devotion these dogs give to us is beyond measure.
