German Shepherd Dog / Mixed : : Male : : Adult : : X-Large
This is a really beautiful dog -- both in appearance and personality. A perfectly quintessential German Shepherd of the Rin Tin Tin variety. He is good with other dogs and cats. He's charming and loving to people. Hansel is full of life and love! He is VERY affectionate and gets along well with other dogs and people. He follows you everywhere. He is weak in the back legs and has a funny hitch in his step, but can climb stairs (a long flight of 14-16 stairs) like a champ. He has the sweetest disposition and will make a wonderful companion. He goes on walks and has no trouble keeping up with my young shepherd while playing. We will know more about his hind end as soon as our vet takes xrays. It certainly doesn't slow this guy down!!
UPDATE: Our vet said that there is NO osteological (skelatal) reason for the weakness and collapsing that can be seen with Hansel. Our vet Xrayed both the hips and spine. It might seem to suggest spinal cord degeneration (which I think it looks like MS in people). If it is that, it is progressive and untreatable. He is currently on B-12, B-mult, lecithin, and primrose oil. Some days are better than others and they are entirely random. Only an MRI could probably give more information at this point. This guy is an amazing dog that will teach you again about living in the moment and squeezing the most happiness out of every minute without thought of disability.
