Update from current foster home:
Anna-Banana (my name for Leanna) is probably about 8 years old. She is on the smaller side for a GSD, about 55 lbs or so. She has the classic GSD markings.
When she came to me, she was rather timid and I am sure a bit traumatized by the upheavals she had been through in the past couple of years. As such, she was a very needy dog - always wanting to be right with you - prefereabley touching you - and she was a very, very picky eater. She has gotten over both of those things and has blossomed into a very happy dog. She loves to play with my two dogs and it is fun to watch her and my female shepherd work in tandem when playing tag with my Great Dane mix. Neiether of 'the girls' have his long legs, but they are quite a bit smarter and they can split up and corner him, etc. He loves it as much as they do and it is just a delight to watch a once shy Anna, who would not leave my side, out romping with the other dogs with a big grin on her face
She is an extremely sweet dog, very loving, very loyal - the mark of a German Shepherd. She loves being loved and whenever I say one of the other dog's names, it is Anna who is right there wanting to be loved and talked to. She just wants all of the attention and still needs reassurance that she is loved. She knows where I am at all times and loves lay at your feet (or next to you on the sofa!) when you are watching TV or reading, or whatever. She just wants to be close to her person and to get lots and lots of love. She prefers people over the other dogs, but she has warmed up a great deal to my dogs and seems to enjoy being part of a pack. In the beginning, I thought perhaps she would prefer to be an only dog as she was so focused on people and on constantly beieng reassured, but now I think she would like to have another canine companion to keep her company if her person is not around for most of the day.
She did, for a couple of months - focus on my cat a bit too much for my cat's comfort - although she has never tried to hurt the cat in anyway. Now, although still interested, she will leave the cat alone when she comes into the living room to hang out with everyone in the evening. She knows where the cat is and what the cat is doing, but she is no longer on top of the cat and the intensity of her interest has lessened a great deal.
Anna knows some basic obedience - sit, stay, off the sofa, outside, etc - but has probably not had any formal obedience training. Come is not a problem for her - the minute you say her name she is right next to you. She alarm barks when someone comes to the door, but other than that is not a barker. When a person comes to visit, her barking stops the minute the step into the house - and then she just wants attention. Once you tell her enough, however, she will settle down at your feet.
She is an absolute sweetheart, she loves her 'cookies' in the morning when I get my coffee, and at night when I go to bed, she always comes to check on my and give me a kiss goodnight before she lays down next to the bed.
She is a delight and whoever decides to adopt her will get the most loving, most loyal dog in the world. All she wants is a family all her own - whether that family is 4 or 5 people, or one person and another dog - she just wants to belong. Could you be her family?
