Keala is a 75 lb female GSD with a sweet wise face and expressive grateful eyes.  She knows how to walk nicely on a leash, basic commands like “sit”, “down”, and is housebroken and crate trained.  Here is a link to her photos on flickr.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/90439496@N07/

Her foster mom has sent us this update: “Keala and I went on a trip today and left my own dogs at home.  I loaded up the car with my boots, pack and flashlight, and off we went.  She loved lying in the back of the car on the soft dog beds I have back there and she rode very quietly just watching the world go by. We stopped at a drive thru espresso stand where she got a doggie biscuit that she gently accepted.  She is not one of those dogs that takes your fingers along with a treat!  We drove for about an hour and arrived at the trail head at the same time as another lady who had an enormous malamute.  As we engaged in a conversation about the trail and about dogs and leashes, Keala just lay down on the ground and patiently waited for me to stop talking.  Our trip was entirely in snow and though I am certain it was her first time being in it, she took it all in stride, thoroughly enjoying checking out the various smells of the forest.  I let her be in front and I had no intention of making her heel at my side when there were so many new sensations for her.  She was very bemused by a snowball rolling down the skope.  She cocked her head one way, then the other way trying to figure out what kind of creature the snow ball could be! .  Of-course one of my goals was to get some photos of her and she patiently waited each time while I fiddled with my camera.  The reason she is laying down in so many shots is that she was bored with me!!  We sat and had lunch around 3:00 pm and she just wanted to cuddle up next to me and put her head in my lap.  So sweet.  On the way down I did practice some obedience and asked her to heel and she was very good and just walked on a loose leash.  At around dusk, I reached for my flashlight in my pack only to realize that I had left it in the car and it was almost dark and there was no moon to illuminate the way.  So I let Keala guide me back to the car during the last 30 minutes of out trip which was is darkness.  To reward her, I stopped at MacDonalds and got  her a burger (hold the pickle) which she ate and then drifted off into a deep sleep punctuated with some contented grunts.  She had a fabulous day.”
